What Makes Paint Protection Film a Great Investment for your Car?

As a vehicle owner, you will want your car to maintain its beauty. This is possible by giving your car some protection that guards it against the forces of nature. As you research your options, you have probably come across paint protective films or clear bras. However, you still don’t get all the details. This article talks about paint protection films PPFs, so you can understand why you should invest in them:

How PPFs Work

A car paint protection film keeps your vehicle looking great for a long time. It is a comprehensive form of defense you can have between your car and anything that can damage the look of your car. It is highly resistant to impacts, so applying it will protect your paint from chips and scratches that rocks and road debris may cause. Proshield car protection film resists corrosion and acidic contaminants, creating a line of defense against chemical staining and etching that bird droppings, mineral deposits, or bug splatter can cause. The film doesn’t oxidized when exposed to sunlight and will protect your paint from fading because of UV rays.

What Makes Up a Paint Protection Film

The main ingredient in a paint protection film is urethane, which is a powerful and flexible polymer made from carbamate links. It is lightweight and transparent like plastic. However, unlike plastic, it’s not brittle or susceptible to tears and cracks. Urethane is resistant to impact, corrosion, and abrasion. Because it is quite flexible, it can return to its natural shape after being disfigured or stretched. Urethane is the central ingredient in a clear film around 0.008 inches thick. Because of its strength and resistance to wear and tear, it is an ideal component for manufacturing and mining equipment.

Apart from urethane, a quality PPF also has at least two other layers. The top is lined with a clear coat made up of elastomeric polymers. This layer lets a good film heal itself from scratches. Also, it has a lower surface energy that prevents organic compounds such as bird droppings or bugs from bonding with the film. The bottom of the film is lined with an acrylic adhesive designed to be versatile. Thus, it can be stretched and wrapped around each contour or vehicle. Also, because of the durability of this component, the film won’t detach over time. Lastly, an acrylic adhesive is invisible, so it won’t impact the paint’s look.
